Without a doubt, the city of Palma is the most popular tourist destination in Mallorca, and not without reason. You can find some of the most majestic architecture in Mallorca located in Palma. From its stunning sandy beaches to its magnificent historic buildings and museums, from its vibrant nightlife and high-end cuisine to its designer shops, there is something for everyone in the capital of the Balearic islands. The city has a wide choice of luxury and designer shops, as well as fine-dining restaurants, many of which are found on the elegant Paseo del Borne street also known as ‘The Golden Mile’.

The first thing that greets you when you enter Palma by sea or land is the majestic La Seu Cathedral, which is considered the crowning gem of Palma. The beautiful Gothic cathedral is a historic landmark and an architectural masterpiece dating back to 1229 when its construction was ordered by King Jaume I of Aragon. Right next to the cathedral is the 13th-century royal palace of L’Almudaina which stands majestically drawing tourists from around the world to admire its history-filled walls. These two buildings are surrounded by the old city walls and behind them you’ll discover the old city or Arab Quarter where you can find traces of the city’s ancient medieval history and Moorish roots.

Another stunning structure is Bellver Castle which sits on a hilltop overlooking Palma. The castle is a 14th-century masterpiece which has been beautifully preserved and is one of the oldest circular castles in Europe.

Palma has preserved its historic architecture and spirit. It is also a place where you can fully immerse yourself in art. The city has been a haven for many well-known artists over the centuries and as a result, art has become a significant part of the city's culture. There are various museums dedicated to art around the city, most notably the Es Baluard where you can find works by great artists like Picasso, Miró and Dali. You can also find live artists on the streets of Palma painting or drawing portraits.
