The Southern region is famous for its spectacular beaches, coves and wonderful seaside views, as well as intimidating rocky cliffs. This is also the area that contains the remains of some of Mallorca's most significant historical events. This was the region where the mysterious Order of the Knights Templar landed on their mission to 'free' Mallorca from Arab rule. If you’re interested in history and architecture as much as relaxing on the beach this area is certainly meant for you, combining both for a unique experience.

Some interesting towns in this area include Porreres, which was named after Knight Guillem de Porrera after the Templar Knight helped liberate the island. This is a beautiful little town where you can enjoy a day strolling in the lovely warm weather marvelling at the stunning art and architecture or enjoying a meal at one of the fantastic restaurants in town.

Colonia Sant Jordi is a seaside resort that sits on the most southern part of the island, and is home to some of its best natural wonders and beaches. The town itself is believed to be one of the oldest settlements on the island with evidence traced back all the way to the Bronze Age. The town is a major tourist hub due to the three popular beaches located in the area. One of these beaches is the 3-km long Es Trenc. The beautiful sandy beach is a piece of paradise with undeveloped surroundings and a Caribbean-blue sea. It is an amazing place to relax in the warm summer weather and take a walk on the sandy dunes with a partner or friends.

Llucmajor is an incredibly history-rich town that is often overlooked by passing tourists. It's blessed with an abundance of history including the oldest archaeological site in Mallorca, Capocorb Vell as well as the site of one of the biggest battles in Mallorcan history (between James II of Mallorca and Peter IV of Aragon in 1349, which led to the independence of Mallorca). The town is located in a central location surrounded by hills to the north and beach resorts to the south. It is only a 10-minutes drive to the nearest beach and has a major golf resort nearby. This town is full of history and history buffs are sure to love this place. The town also appeals to hikers and bikers and also those who enjoy being immersed in nature.

This area is also home to the only natural hot springs on the whole island. Towns like Sa Ràpita offer different types of activities including water sports like sailing, snorkelling and scuba trips to the nearby protected Cabrera National park. You can also explore the beautiful yet mysterious caves and inlets scattered all around this region.

All in all, the south is the perfect region to enjoy a balanced holiday with lots of different activities, opportunities to just relax, enjoy the weather next to the sea or enjoy the area's history-rich towns. We also take pride in enhancing your experience with our best holiday villas in Mallorca, located in the most convenient spots to make sure you get the most out of your holidays.
