Top Beaches in Mallorca

Spending the day at the beach is a pretty easy mission to be accomplished in summer, but even locals take their time to find the top beaches in Mallorca with the most chrystalline waters and the most private places to dip into the Mediterranean sea.

Sandy beaches, coves, bays, urban beaches… it is a matter of personal taste, but we believe them all are a great choice if you know where to go.  We admit we are passionate lovers of beaches and we know this little island very well, reason why you will find a great selection of beaches and we will share with you some tips to make your stay a truly delight. Here we go with the tops and tips!

Top Sandy Beaches

  • Es Trenc (Campos). Probably the most popular beach in Mallorca, located in a natural park, Es Trenc is a must-see place for anyone staying or visiting the island. Due to its popularity, if you ever plan to spend the day at Es Trenc, you must take into account how will you get there. By car: only if you plan to be there very early in the morning, there are 1500 limited parking places; or by bus: Palma- Sa Ràpita 515 you must walk a little from Sa Ràpita to arrive to Es Trenc. Further in the alternative, you can reach Es Trenc by going to Colònia de Sant Jordi first and then walk from there.
  • Playa de Muro (Muro). Similar to Es Trenc but situated in the opposite side of the island, whilst Es Trenc is the top sandy southern beach, Playa de Muro is the top sandy beach in the north. Divided into different parts, but them all belonging to the same beach, Playa de Muro is one of the longest beaches of the island with 5,2 km long. If you want to get there, you can go to Santa Margalida or Muro, and take the Ma-12 road.
  • Formentor. Located right next to one of the most glorious hotels of the island, Hotel Formentor, this beach of chrystalline water, white sand and pine trees around, is a great option for a day-at-the-beach. Close to Port de Pollença village, you must get there first to arrive to Formentor. The access to the beach has been highly restricted by the authorities in the latest months, so if you plan to go during the months of july and august in the daytime you must take into account that the main road is closed for cars. From the station located at the Tramuntana street in Port de Pollença, you can take a bus directly to Formentor beach.

Top Coves

  • Banyalbufar. At the foothills of the village Banyalbufar, the views over the beach are absolutely stunning and will surely leave you breathless. Located at the western coast of the island and in the heart of the Tramuntana range, Banyalbufar cove is an excellent option for those who appreciate unique natural spaces. The access is not complicated, but not the most comfortable either. Once you reach Banyalbufar village, you just have to follow the road signs to get to the beach. The parking is located whitin a few minutes on foot.
  • Cala Deià. Picturesque and charming are words that define pretty well Cala Deià. Located at the outskirts of the most beautiful village of the island, Deià, it is also quite close to another emblematic village, Sóller. This small cove catches visitors hearts as the landscape views have no comparison with any other for its beauty, virgin nature and the turquoise color of the water. The road from Deià to Cala Deià is narrow and not the most comfortable one, but totally worths it. There is a fee-parking available for visitors (blue line), and then you need to walk a couple of minutes to get to the cove.

Top Close-to-Palma Beaches

  • Playa El Mago. Nudist beach that was named after the famous movie of Anthony Quinn and Michael Caine “The Magus” recorded there. Since it was declared a nudist beach, there is alower flood of visitors to El Mago that makes it more private and exclusive. The turquoise and clean water makes this small beach a magic spot.
  • Illetes. Only 9 kilometers far from Palma, Illetes is the place to be in summer for locals. Specially crowded in the weekends, despite of being thatfrequented, it is a worthy place for a beach day, particularly during the week. Balneario Illetas as well as Puro Beach Illetas are beach clubs that offers you more facilities to enjoy this fantastic beach. Top Kid-friendly Beaches

  • Es Dolç (Colònia de Sant Jordi). Located in front of the main promenade of Colònia de Sant Jordi, es Dolç is a comfortable option for a quiet day at the beach with kids. The water is clean and the beach is spacious enough to always guarantee you a spot to stay at. You have different bars and shops walking distance that might be helpful for an oversight. If you feel ready for a 30 minute walk, you can reach Es Cargol, which is a fabulous sandy beach right next to Es Dolç.
  • Camp de Mar (Andratx). A comfortable beach situated four kilometers after Andratx surrounded by villas and hotels at the seafront, with easy access for strollers. Top Private Beaches

  • Llucalcari. Great option for an easy hiking day with friends or family. Once you pass Deià by car, you find Llucalcari, a small hamlet located in a foothill. It takes a while to get to the beach from the hamlet, and you must pass through a mountain path where you can admire the mediterranean forest as well as some local animals. The views from the top of the hill are stunning, and the privacy at the cove is guaranteed. It is a small cove and parking is not easy, reason why you rarely find a large numbers of people.
  • Na Clara (Colònia de Sant Pere). Located north, Na Clara is a red soil beach that is very well known for its virgin nature, lush beauty and privacy. Close to Betlem residential area, you have a free parking  and then you must walk a few minutes to get to the beach. Not hard to find, but the quality of the latest part of the road isn’t the greatest.
